Pazhampori or plantain fritters recipe with step by step pictures - Pazhampori , famous kerala streetfood or snack is here for you today. We are a great lover of pazhampori. Just back from a wonderful kerala trip, such a relaxing vacation at my dear friend Sheeba's ammachi house ( ammachi = grandma ). Big farm house at the midst of green pastures, backwaters with livestock around, birds chirping around, smell of hot appams, puttu, fried coconut flakes, beef masala. That's an awesome trip to remember and I did carry a lot of takeaways from the trip. I should call them treasures, yes I am talking about ammachi's special recipes. So, here is one of her recipes that we all enjoyed during our stay. Pazhamporis make an excellent evening snack or brunch. As ammachi made them, they were invisible in seconds. So, plan to make in bulk if at all you are going to follow this recipe :)

#FoodforSoul - I happened to read this beautiful verse - God rewrote the text of my life. When I opened the book of my heart to His eyes. Psalm 18 : 24. We all know that God can meet any, be it ANY NEED that we may have. But many a times, we tend to forget that we have such a Big God. When we are conscious about HIS presence, joy of soul is undeniable. Blessings are undeniable. There are a lots of way which can bring us joy. But Joy of the Lord shall warm your heart. Soothe your soul. Keep you protected everytime. We are born again, which means our heart is now an open book to the Holy spirit. He knows all. So, why worry ? :)

Pazhampori or Plantain Fritters

Preparation time : 5 mins    |     Cooking time : 15 mins      |       Serves : 5

1 kg Nendram variety of banana

1 cup maida or all purpose flour

3 tbspns rice flour

a pinch of turmeric powder

a pinch of baking soda

1 tspn jeera or cumin seeds

4 tbspns of sugar

1/4 tspn of salt

Oil to deep fry

Step 1 - Slice bananas with peel. Then peel off the slices. That way its easy and not messy with peeling.

Step 2 - Mix all ingredients ( except banana, oil, water ). Add water little by little to make a thick batter.

Step 3 - Heat oil in a pan. Coat the banana slices in the batter and put it in hot oil.

Step 4 - Clean sides of the batter bowl often. These are few tips to learn from her :)

Step 5 - Let them fry golden on both sides.

Step 6 - Use two spoons to drain the oil out of them.

Step 7 - Serve hot with chai or lemon tea :)

    1. Turmeric is for color, You could skip that as well.

    1. You could add black sesame seeds which gives additional texture

    1. Add baking soda just before you are going to fry the fritters.

    1. Adding sugar gives nice crispy edges.

    1. Batter consistency is very important. It should be thicker than the usual dosa batter consistency.
